ENI North Africa/ Gaddafi Development
Background: In the framework of a Memorandum of Understanding for Social Projects signed on September 22, 2006 between Eni NA and the Gaddafi Development Foundation, with the sponsorship of the National Oil Corporation, eusg carried out strategy training on the subject of urban waste management in two regions (Nuqat El Khams and Az-Zawiyah) together with its partner CPS.
Objectives and Results: The MoU foresaw a strategic perspective to community investments, aiming at the sustainable development of the territory and the growth of local governance capabilities, while establishing long-term development partnerships with local stakeholders. A tangible product of the training program was the formulation of a local plan of action for waste management and disposal that could be used as a strategic reference to help local stakeholders to identify the best strategy to improve the current situation as well as to initiate useful partnerships with significant regions and services companies in order to benefit from both best practices and innovative technology sharing and dissemination. Up to 20 representatives from local authorities, the private sector, university and civil society were involved in training sessions on the strategic planning of the environment compartment, mainly focused on waste management and disposal. Training was supported by Parmenides EIDOS, the software for strategic planning which has already been implemented in Arabic in several countries of the region.
