Background: A comprehensive, long-term energy partnership between Africa and Europe is of mutual interest. The aim must be to improve the climate for investment, to in increase the amount invested in energy and to bring transparency to oil and gas revenues. Moreover, in light of climate change renewable energies have to be intensively developed.” stated the German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul at her opening speech at the Africa-Europe Energy Forum in Berlin in 2007.
Objectives and Results: During the German presidency of the EU, eusg designed and organized the African-EU forum in cooperation with the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Commission. The participants of the conference included more than 220 members of the government, representatives from regional and international institutions, from organisations in the private sector as well as from NGOs.
